What To Do If You Find a Beached Seal or Sea Lion
  1. Do not touch the animal. Call Pacific Marine Mammal Center (PMMC) at (949) 494-3050 with as much information as possible. Please note the size of the animal, possible wounds, and the exact location of the animal.
  2. Watch from a distance and keep people away. Marine mammals can bite and transmit disease.
  3. Do not try to feed the animal.
  4. Do not attempt to move the animal back to the water or throw water on it. The animal has beached itself to be warm and dry.
  5. PMMC will attempt to rescue every beached animal. Please note: the animal must be on land in order for our staff to attempt a rescue.

Note: Marine mammals are protected by federal law. It is unlawful for unauthorized persons to handle them. Marine Mammal Protection Act
