Tommy
This newborn California sea lion was abandoned only a few hours after his birth at Moss Point beach in Laguna. Mothers will not leave their newborn pups unless they are ill or unable to care for the pup. Tommy would not have survived without his mother and when we picked him up he was already very cold. We immediately set to work warming him up and administering fluids. He had a strong suckle even the first day and he took to the bottle after 3 days of tube feeding around the clock.
Moral support for first time in big pool
Tommy is no different than most babies and loved his bottle. The weaning process was both challenging and rewarding for everyone. Trust, even to a sea lion, is important and with patience and kind words, we were able to successfully wean Tommy off the bottle and he is eating fish on his own.

Tommy Mania is going on the road late March.
