Tommy was found abandoned on a beach in Southern California and rescued and rehabilitated
by the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach. Hand feeding and care was given to
ensure that Tommy would survive at the tender young age that he was rescued. He was found
at approximately 70% of the the normal body weight for newborn sea lions and often sea
lions abandoned at this delicate age do not survive. Tommy not only survived, he thrived
in the care he received at PMMC and has since found a new permanent home at the Rio Grande
Zoo in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
