Each month PMMC features a special patient that has an extraordinary story. We are currently featuring Sugar Cube, a California sea lion pup rescued at Newport Beach.
Sugar Cube
This five-month old sea lion pup was rescued at Newport Beach on November 3rd. She is the first of this year's sea lion pups. She was a mere 22 pounds and 37 inches in length when rescued. She was emaciated, had a lip laceration and an upper respiratory infection. She was tube fed five times a day and started to eat fish on her own after 2 weeks of tube feeds. She is currently 48 pounds and her wound has completely healed.
