There are many concerns surrounding the ocean and it's inhabitants today that deserve attention. Although some of these issues are not the direct focus of Pacific Marine Mammal Center, we feel that by bringing attention and awareness to the cause, changes can begin to happen for the benefit of our patients, and all sea creatures. Harpseals.org is working to end the Canadian harp seal slaughter by educating the public and by advocating and promoting the boycotts of Canadian seafood and tourism. Every year hundreds of thousands of baby harp seals are clubbed to death and skinned for their fur.

Earth Island's Rick O'Barry featured in the Oscar-sinning documentary The Cove and the new series Blood Dolphins is continuing his heroic efforts to expose the plight of dolphins worldwide and ensure their full protection His campaign is to end the Japanese drive fishery slaughter of Dolphins conducted by the international Marine Mammal Project of Earth Island Institute.

Throughout the world they are working on a limited number of strategic directed campaigns to help return our oceans to the former levels of abundance. The oceans are in crisis from over fishing, acidification and habitat destruction.

Ocean Defenders Alliance is a marine conservation organization based in Orange County, California. They strive to make Southern California's coastal waters safer for marine wildlife by reducing dangerous manmade objects from vital habitat, focusing on abandoned commercial fishing gear that poses serious threats to numerous species. They also liberate wildlife found trapped in nets and pots that needlessly continue to capture and kill long after being lost by the fishing industry.

Stopsharkfinning.net is campaigning to achieve a worldwide ban on shark finning. Every year tens of million of sharks die a slow death because of finning. Finning is the inhumane practice of hacking off the shark's fins and throwing its still living body back into the sea to starve to death, be eaten or drown. Shark fins are being harvested in ever greater numbers to feed the growing demand for shark fin soup, an Asian delicacy.
