Abramson Animal Care Fundraiser
As many of you may know Helen volunteers in the animal care department at the Pacific Marine Mammal Center. A charity near and dear to both Helen & Roger's hearts.
PMMC rescues, rehabilitates and releases marine mammals that strand off 52 miles of the orange county coastline and inspires ocean stewardship, through research, education and collaboration. Since 1971 PMMC has rescued over 8,000 seals, sea lions, whales, dolphins and sea turtles, giving them a second chance at life.
*Cosmo - a Northern elephant seal sponsored & rehabilitated by Helen & Roger. Rescued by PMMC at only 86 pounds, very sick, malnourished and dehydrated. He was released back into his ocean home at 222 pounds.
The efficient and successful operation of PMMC takes an immense amount of resources: equipment, vehicles, food, medicine, supplies, pathology testing, diagnostic and supportive care.
The Abramson's are hosting a dinner on October 19, 2018 from 6-9 pm to raise funds to support the patients in our care. Please RSVP to Helen your response to firstname.lastname@example.org by October 10, 2018.
Those who cannot attend please consider a tax-deductible donation at the following levels:
Most animals come to us sick, entangled, injured and near death. Raptor pictured here came to us this year with 4 fishing hooks embedded in her mouth and required surgery to remove them. Post-opp Raptor required daily meds to help her wounds heal. Raptors story is becoming increasingly more common in other animals.
Anesthesia machines, supplies and medicines can get costly.
To provide the quickest and best rescue response and animal care, we continuously need new and better equipment. This can include: custom nets, gloves and rescuer gear, gas and vehicle maintenance, boards and transportation kennels.
From rescue to release their is a whole lot of care. A $5,000 donation will cover majority of all costs for one animal from the time it is first rescued on the beach to it’s release back into it ocean home.
